Rev. 6:5 “And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.”
Black is the color of mourning, poverty, sorrow, sickness, famine, and the kinds of deaths that result from such things. The rider of the black horse has been given power to control of all of that. He has a pair of balance scales in his hand. The balance scale is the symbol of the market place. This rider controls the market place and is in control of mourning, poverty, sorrow, sickness, famine, and the death that can come from such. These symbols represent the truth that in a fallen world the scales must be balanced before poverty, sickness, sorrow, famine, mourning, and the untimely death that results from such things can be alleviated.
These symbols show what is known as a market based economy. This economy is shown following the political power of Democracy that is in turn following Jesus and His church as they spread the Gospel over the earth. The symbolism revealed under the first four seals of The Revelation is plain: Jesus and His church spread the Gospel while at the same time Democracy and a market based economy follow them. Where these forces take hold and prosper, the people are freed from religious, political, and economic tyranny. The market based economy that develops out of Democracy is modified, or regulated, Capitalism. Capitalism is the economics of a free market place, but because God has placed some restrictions on this market based economy, He has shown us that he intends that this should be a modified, or a regulated market based economy. What that means is that the markets must kept subject to the control of the people and the people must be obedient to the control of Jesus Christ. Every American, Christian or otherwise, and all churches should become investors in the market places of the world and then become involved in the control of the corporations and institutions who direct the affairs of those markets. It is the only way for the economic power of the rider of the Black Horse to fulfill its destiny of freeing all of mankind from the scourge of such things as famine and poverty. Failure to accomplish this in this age brings judgment upon it when Jesus returns and his people take control of this rider.
This regulated market based economy has been unsurpassed in the history of mankind for bringing economic freedom and prosperity to the people where it takes hold. It is the only system ever discovered or devised that has the capacity to solve the problem of distributing the wealth of the earth fairly and equitably while at the same time dramatically reducing death caused by poverty, famine, and pestilence. The truth is that these problems in the underdeveloped world are far too great to be helped by Christian charity alone. While such charity must certainly be employed to relieve as much suffering as possible temporarily, it is plain that the only long term solution to such problems is to give the people the power to take care of them selves and others. To see the best information available today on why the social programs of the political left will not work to alleviate these problems go to the Beck Video page and click on the link that is on that page. One only has to look at the nation of South Korea since the 1950’s to see how these forces work to bring a people out of bondage into Freedom’s Holy Light.
Rev. 6:6 “And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.”
Previously, in Rev. 5:6, John said he saw the Lamb that had been slain standing in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts (living creatures) and the twenty four elders. John said that the voice he heard speaking about the wheat, barley, oil, and wine came from the midst of these four living creatures. Jesus Christ describes the characteristics of the economy over which He will use to distribute the wealth of the Earth within His Empire. He has placed these restrictions upon this economic power that He has ordained to set mankind free from poverty, famine, sorrow, suffering, and pain on the earth. Jesus is not setting the price of commodities upon the open market in this verse. He is establishing a principle upon which His choice of economies must be based. A balance is used to measure things against a standard. In this picture the standard upon which the daily needs of a family are measured is that of a fair day’s wages. A penny (dinarius) represents the wage a laborer needed to provide for his family, and the measures of wheat and parley represent the necessities of life.
This regulated economy must provide a wage that allows for the needs of the family to be met at a price the laborer can afford to pay. When this standard is reversed, and the measure of wheat becomes the standard against which a day’s wages is measured, the economy becomes the agent of the Whore of Babylon. A fair day’s wage for a fair day’s work must determine the cost of living, and not vice versa. In this fashion, the markets are stabilized and world hunger, poverty, disease, and unrest will be eliminated.
Jesus says this market based economy of regulated Capitalism must treat the labors who produce the goods of the market fairly. To be sure, investment in the markets of such a system will not bring the fantastic returns that are now possible in the present markets that are using the upside down standard where the cost of living always advances faster than the day’s wages, but it will also eliminate all of the risk of investment so that, while one will only slowly increase his wealth beyond his investment, he will never lose it entirely. When you understand that there is no longer any reason to save for retirement, and that the citizens of the Millennial Kingdom will have hundreds of years in which their investments can serve the Empire, the slow growth becomes a moot point.
Free people are just now learning the potential for a market place economy to alleviate the poverty, famine, pestilence, and death from such causes in the world. The world holds such tremendous wealth, and there simply is not a better way to distribute it fairly than through the markets. The picture of the Black Horse and rider is that of Capitalism providing goods at prices workers can afford. There is only one solution for an impoverished world. Market based Capitalism, under the power of Jesus Christ, is the only permanent solution to the problems that Roy Beck has outlined in his celebrated demonstration of the consequences to the United States because of her misguided immigration policies. I hope you can watch it because it shows the utter futility of trying to solve world poverty with our current thinking about social programs. The devil knows the truth of this, and that is why he has so many of his troops out raising Hell over poverty and trying to shut down the free markets that are the world’s only hope for a cure.
The second restriction placed upon Capitalism is that it “hurt not the oil and the wine.” Oil is the symbol of the Holy Spirit, and wine is the symbol of the New Covenant in the blood of Jesus Christ. Therefore, Capitalism is commanded not to hurt either the Church of Jesus Christ or the work of the Holy Spirit as they accomplish God’s purpose of spreading the Gospel over the earth. The modified market based economy of regulated Capitalism within the culture of Christian Democracy is required to be Gospel Neutral. When this nation began, Capitalism was not governmentally regulated, and it failed to live up to the restrictions placed upon it by Jesus Christ of ensuring the wage of the laborers was the standard unit of wealth. When the so called robber barons of Capitalism began to abuse the free markets and abuse the laborers in this economy, Jesus sent the Great Depression upon this land forcing the government to intervene and regulate the market places to accomplish what God had intended men to accomplish voluntarily. Americans now live and work within a market based economy that is the envy of the rest of the world. Everyone who wants to do so can enter into the market places, but they must also understand that while there is no better system in the world for defeating the scourges of famine, disease, and pestilence, there is also no better place to satisfy the powerful motives of greed and selfishness. Those investing in the markets need to be as concerned about how their investments are affecting the workers upon whom their profits depend as they are about how well their portfolios are faring.
In its unselfish form, modified Capitalism has been ordained to go forth and spread itself over the earth in order to alleviate the scourges of poverty, famine, sickness, sorrow, and untimely deaths from those causes. Because Jesus said that the poor would always be among us, the church has been commanded to clothe the naked and feed the hungry. That commission will always be in effect for the church to provide for those who are unable to help them selves because of economic, religious, or political oppression, or other causes beyond their control. It is evident though that the church must also be actively engaged in helping to establish Democracy and Capitalism over the earth in order to permanently empower those who can care for themselves to do so.
Jesus has sent forth the economic power of modified Capitalism to free mankind from economic tyranny so that men can work honestly and be rewarded fairly. Within this system people are free to provide for themselves and their families by honest and fair labor. There is no better way to provide for the needs of humanity than from the fruits of an economic system of modified capitalism. It is also important for the political forces, the economic powers, and the church to note that within the culture of those who have been freed to care for themselves, the people must apply themselves to that purpose. God has declared, “If anyone will not work, neither shall they eat.” There is no way that the church can be true to the commandment to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and visit the prisoners while also being true to the admonition that if any one will not work neither let him eat except she be involved in providing work to the able needy, and charity to those who cannot help themselves within the markets and industries of the culture.
